Harbour day
Last Saturday, it was harbour day in Antwerp. You could visit compananies and facilities around the entire port. Unfortunately, it was raining, so I only visited one thing: a company specialized in moving cranes. They had a bunch of quay cranes, but the most impressive were the water cranes. They had three of them and these are huges babies floating on the water on some kind of pontoon. The biggest of them (named Brabo after a famous figure from a traditional legend about the origin of the name Antwerp), can lift 800 tons!! I wish I had a wide angle lens
Anyway, here are the pics. This one is an overview of the quay, with one the two exhibited floating cranes.
And here comes the giant, Brabo! I couldn’t find any non-touristic angle that fit him completely in the frame!
Here you see Brabo along with a sign stating that this is Brabo’s private spot on the quay (note the underlining of the name :-)). You can see the entire crane (without the pontoon) here.
